When an applicant discloses an incident related to character and fitness, the Board may ask the applicant to submit a personal statement addressing the issue(s). The personal statement allows the applicant to describe the circumstances surrounding the incident, to give insight into his/her view of the incident, and to discuss any resulting changes or rehabilitation.
While the personal statement should address the incidents and issues of concern, it is also an opportunity for an applicant to share what he/she believes to be relevant to whether the applicant has the required character and fitness to be admitted to the bar.
